Best Treatment for Acne – Chemical Peel for Acne Scars

Acne is one of the most common dermatological issues, significantly affecting self-confidence as well as overall quality of life. At Divine Medica, a specialized aesthetic medicine clinic in Munich, we offer an effective acne treatment based on chemical peeling – a method tailored to each patient’s individual needs to achieve optimal results.

What is a chemical peel and how does it work for acne?

Chemical peeling is a non-invasive dermatological procedure that uses special chemical solutions to remove dead cells from the skin’s surface layer. This stimulates the skin’s natural regeneration, reduces sebum production, and deeply cleanses the pores. These changes not only help reduce existing acne but also prevent new breakouts.

CHEMICAL PEEL FOR ACNE TREATMENT

Chemical peeling, as an effective and low-risk treatment method, has gained particular importance in recent years not only for acne treatment but also for other skin conditions such as:

  • Acne vulgaris

  • Pigmented spots (Lentigo seniles)

  • Skin aging

  • Chloasma (pigmentation disorders in young women, often caused by contraceptive pills)

  • Wrinkles

  • Enlarged pores

  • Superficial acne scars

  • Pigmented lesions (Lentigo simplex)

  • Pigmentation irregularities

Benefits of chemical peeling as an acne treatment

Using chemical peels in acne therapy offers numerous benefits:

Reduction of inflammation

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, the peel visibly reduces redness and swelling, which is especially beneficial for inflammatory acne.

Improved skin texture and appearance

By removing damaged and thickened layers of skin, a smoother surface and more even tone are achieved, significantly enhancing the skin’s aesthetic appearance.

Prevention of scarring and hyperpigmentation

Regular treatments can significantly reduce the risk of scarring and dark spots that often follow improperly treated acne.

Individualized acne treatment approach

At Divine Medica, every patient is treated based on a detailed skin analysis and medical history. The chemical peel is selected according to skin type, acne severity, and any previous treatments. If needed, the treatment is combined with other acne therapies to achieve maximum effect.

Combined acne treatments

In addition to chemical peels, the following therapies are also available:

  • Laser treatments – for targeted bacteria elimination and collagen stimulation

  • Acne Pure Therapy – designed to regulate sebum and soothe the skin

Combining these methods allows for deeper and longer-lasting results in the fight against acne.

Different chemical solutions are applied to the skin during a peeling treatment. In this way, skin impurities (comedones) are removed by eliminating the surface layers of cells, pores that have become hardened are permanently tightened, and the activity of the sebaceous glands is positively influenced. For inflammatory forms of acne, certain peels (e.g., with salicylic acid) are particularly beneficial, and visible skin tightening is achieved with peels that penetrate slightly deeper.

Depending on the skin type, there are individual chemical peels with different effects, varying depths of skin penetration, and different ingredients.

After pretreatment and facial cleansing, the peeling treatment is performed by applying a gel or solution of individually selected peeling agents, and this mixture acts under supervision for several minutes. Depending on the intensity of the peel and individual sensitivity, only a mild tingling sensation is usually felt.

The solution or gel is neutralized and rinsed off depending on the type of peel used. In order to achieve the best possible effect on unwanted acne and sebaceous gland disorders, this treatment is carried out four to six times at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks, with a gradual increase in concentration.

Immediately after the treatment, the facial skin may be red for a short time, which can usually be easily covered with camouflage. On the second and third day after the peel, mild skin flaking may occur, especially with sensitive skin and the use of peels that penetrate slightly deeper. Of course, the concentration of the peel can also be reduced after consultation, if this is to be avoided for personal or professional reasons.

We use appropriate peeling agents individually, depending on the severity of acne, skin type, and age. TCA glycol peel, which also has skin rejuvenating effects, is ideal for “adult acne” that more commonly occurs in women, as well as for visibly rough skin. For adolescents and sensitive skin, we use a very superficial and well-tolerated glycol peel, while glycolic/salicylic acid therapy is ultimately beneficial for visibly inflammatory forms of acne.

Depending on the skin type and type of peel, we recommend special facial creams containing fruit acids, which should be used as a preparatory phase for at least 2 to 3 weeks before the planned peeling treatment. This helps reduce the risk of pigment shifting after the peeling session. After the peel, effective UV protection is essential for several weeks.

An important goal of peeling is a significant and often long-lasting improvement of acne over several months. After the peel, additional acne treatment with creams is recommended. When TCA glycol peel is used, a lasting smoothing of rough skin and prolonged skin tightening are often noticeable.
