Treatment Overview

Skin tags commonly appear as soft, benign projections of skin. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the most suitable removal method is selected. Size and location determine the technique, extent of treatment and subsequent care.

Discussion during a clinic consultation

Who is this treatment suitable for?

A confirmed skin tag may be treated if it repeatedly rubs against clothing or is cosmetically bothersome. Before treatment, we explain the small wound that will be left and how to care for it.

Skin Tag Removal safety

Safety and Tolerability

The diagnosis is clarified before removal, including whether tissue examination may be required. We discuss the risks of infection, delayed healing, scarring, pigment changes and damage to surrounding tissue with you. The extent of treatment, protective measures and aftercare depend on the location of the lesion.

Treatment Process

During the consultation, we assess whether the skin tag is becoming irritated by friction or is mainly a cosmetic concern. We tailor the plan to the treatments suitable for you and how well your skin tolerates them.

Preparation and Aftercare

Before the treatment

Tell us about medications, allergies and any previous reactions to minor procedures. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own. Avoid picking at or pulling on the skin tag before treatment and let us know about any acute inflammation or new changes.

After the treatment

Protect the small wound from friction caused by clothing or jewellery. Wound care and any dressing depend on the site. Leave crusts untouched and report increasing redness, pain or discharge promptly.

Results

After removal, the initial focus is wound healing. Skin colour and any small scar continue to change over approximately 2–6 months. We cannot guarantee that the skin will heal without any visible mark.
