Eyelid Surgery
Remove or reposition selected tissue to improve eyelid function or appearance.
Eyelid surgery includes upper, lower or combined blepharoplasty and selected surgical brow-lift procedures.

Blepharoplasty removes or repositions skin, muscle and sometimes fat around the eyelids. A brow lift addresses brow position rather than the eyelid itself. Surgery can be cosmetic, functional or both, depending on the patient's symptoms and examination.

Applications may include excess upper-eyelid skin, lower-eyelid bags, eyelid heaviness, asymmetry or a low brow contributing to visual obstruction. Dry eye, ptosis and other eye conditions must be identified before planning.

Swelling and bruising improve over weeks, while scars and final contour continue to mature for months. Surgery can produce long-lasting improvement, but ageing continues and perfect symmetry is not guaranteed.

Risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, dry or irritated eyes, asymmetry, difficulty closing the eyes, lid malposition, double vision and need for revision. Bleeding behind the eye and vision loss are rare emergencies. Surgery should be performed by an appropriately qualified surgeon with clear aftercare.

It may suit adults with a structural eyelid or brow concern who are fit for surgery and have realistic expectations. Eye-surface disease, smoking, bleeding risk or uncontrolled medical problems may need treatment first.
Surgery is usually a single procedure with planned follow-up. Revision is considered only after healing unless an urgent complication requires earlier action.
Bruising and swelling commonly last around two weeks and can persist longer. Driving, contact lenses, strenuous exercise and work may need to be limited during recovery.
The surgeon assesses vision, eye surface, eyelid position, brow position, skin excess, medicines and medical history. The correct plan may be upper, lower or combined surgery, brow treatment or no surgery.
