What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine. It temporarily blocks signal transmission to selected muscles or sweat glands. In aesthetic medicine, it is used for dynamic facial lines. At DIVINE Medica in Munich, we tailor treatment to the results of your assessment.

What does Botulinum Toxin entail?
We assess muscle activity, anatomy and the treatment goal. These factors determine the dose and injection points. The medicine is then injected precisely in small amounts; medical uses are tailored to the relevant clinical condition.
Applications of Botulinum Toxin
Aesthetic uses include forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. Medical uses can include chronic migraine, excessive sweating and selected cases of bruxism. Suitability and any off-label use are discussed separately. When pain is involved, treatment is incorporated into an appropriate neurological, dental or physiotherapy care plan.

Safety of Botulinum Toxin
Temporary tenderness or small bruises can occur at the injection sites. Unwanted muscle effects, such as asymmetry, temporary drooping of the eyelid or brow, or swallowing difficulties, are discussed individually depending on the treatment area and indication. Dosage is based on your anatomy.
Before and Aftercare
Before botulinum toxin treatment, we review your medications, allergies and previous treatments, as well as any neuromuscular disorders. This helps us assess whether treatment is suitable for you. Elective aesthetic treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and inflammation in the target area must first be assessed.
Your personal botulinum toxin aftercare plan includes advice about exercise and heat. Do not rub the treated areas. Breathing or swallowing difficulties and pronounced muscle weakness require immediate medical attention. Routine zinc supplementation to prolong the effect is not supported by sufficient evidence; a suspected deficiency should be discussed with a doctor, and high-dose zinc should not be taken without guidance.
For aesthetic treatment, the effect usually begins after 3–7 days. We assess the result after around 10–14 days, and the effect often lasts about 3–4 months. For medical indications, follow-up and repeat treatment depend on the diagnosis and treatment protocol. Supplements or additional muscle relaxants cannot be relied on to prolong the effect.

Personal consultation
At the practice, you discuss which dynamic wrinkles or medical symptoms you would like treated. The recommendation takes your anatomy, desired change and possible risks of botulinum toxin into account. A 30-minute consultation costs €75.
