Vascular laser and light treatments target haemoglobin in visible vessels so the treated vessel can gradually fade.

Different wavelengths and IPL systems are used for different vessel sizes, depths and skin types. The goal may be to reduce individual capillaries, diffuse facial redness or selected spider veins. A medical cause should be considered when redness is new, severe or associated with other symptoms.

Applications may include visible facial capillaries, persistent redness and selected superficial spider veins. Treatment does not prevent new vessels from forming and may not be suitable for every vascular condition.

Some vessels darken or swell before fading. Improvement may be visible after one session, but several treatments are often needed. Results vary, and recurrence or new vessels can develop over time.

Temporary redness, swelling, bruising or darkening is common. Burns, blisters, scarring and darker or lighter pigmentation are possible. Eye protection is essential. Tanning, photosensitising medicines and some vascular or skin conditions can increase risk.

It may suit adults with a confirmed superficial vascular concern and realistic expectations. A clinician should assess unexplained redness, leg swelling, pain or rapidly changing vessels before cosmetic treatment.
Small isolated vessels may respond to one session, while diffuse redness often needs a course. Maintenance may be considered if vessels recur.
Redness and swelling usually last from hours to several days. Some treated vessels may look darker or bruised before they fade.
Device, wavelength and settings are chosen according to vessel depth, colour, location and skin type. The clinician may recommend a test patch or another treatment for larger leg veins or medically significant vascular disease.
