Treatment Overview

Confirmed benign skin lesions can be removed depending on their type, depth and location. Examination determines the most appropriate technique. If tissue analysis is required, complete laser ablation must not take place before that assessment.

Discussion during a clinic consultation

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Confirmed benign lesions may be removed if they become irritated by friction or are a cosmetic concern. New or changing skin lesions require diagnostic assessment first.

Removal of Benign Skin Lesions safety

Safety and Tolerability

The diagnosis is clarified before removal, including whether tissue examination may be required. We discuss the risks of infection, delayed healing, scarring, pigment changes and damage to surrounding tissue with you. The extent of treatment, protective measures and aftercare depend on the location of the lesion.

Treatment Process

We discuss your concern and how the skin lesion has developed. We tailor the plan to the treatments suitable for you and how well your skin tolerates them.

Preparation and Aftercare

Before the treatment

Tell us about new changes, growth or bleeding, as well as medications and healing problems. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own. Do not treat or injure the lesion yourself before the appointment.

After the treatment

Follow the wound-care and dressing instructions provided. Avoid friction and picking at crusts. Worsening symptoms and any new or recurrent changes are medically assessed.

Results

After wound closure, skin colour and the appearance of any scars continue to change over approximately 2–6 months. Residual tissue or recurrence may require further steps. Any new suspicious lesion is assessed independently.

Local anaesthesia usually keeps discomfort during removal to a minimum, although you may feel the injection and brief pressure. Local anaesthesia is required. Expected downtime is around 3–10 days. The small wound may initially be tender, red or mildly swollen, and a crust can form. Minor bleeding is possible. Increasing pain, redness or discharge requires medical assessment.
