CO₂ Laser Treatment for Acne Scars consultation

Treatment Overview

Fractional CO₂ laser stimulates skin renewal and collagen remodelling in selected depressed acne scars. Scar depth and shape determine which areas are likely to respond. A coordinated treatment plan is often more important than a single session.

At DIVINE Medica in Munich near Odeonsplatz, acne-scar treatment is tailored to your skin type and the shape of your scars.

CO₂ Laser Treatment for Acne Scars treatment

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Depressed scars left by healed acne may be suitable for CO₂ laser treatment. Scar type and skin tone determine the approach; active acne and inflammation are treated first.

CO₂ Laser Treatment for Acne Scars safety

Safety and Tolerability

Skin type, tendency to develop pigmentation changes and wound healing are considered before laser treatment. Infection, herpes reactivation, delayed healing, scarring and persistent colour changes are not expected short-term healing reactions and require appropriate assessment. Appropriate eye protection and personalised aftercare are part of the treatment plan.

Personal counselling takes your skin type, scar pattern and healing response into account. Redness, swelling and crusting can accompany recovery. We also discuss possible complications, including infection, persistent pigment changes and unwanted scarring.

Treatment Process

Your scars are assessed according to shape, depth and distribution. We tailor the plan to the treatments suitable for you and how well your skin tolerates them.

Preparation and Aftercare

Before the treatment

Tell us about acne treatments, including isotretinoin, as well as herpes, medications and wound-healing issues. Do not change prescribed medication on your own. Avoid tanning; active inflammation and broken skin are treated or assessed first.

After the treatment

Scar areas need gentle wound care and consistent sun protection. Do not squeeze, rub or pick at crusts. Skincare with active ingredients and further acne treatment are resumed as part of a coordinated plan; worsening symptoms should be medically assessed.

Results

Initial changes may become visible after 2–6 weeks. Tissue remodelling is assessed after 3–6 months, and several sessions may be appropriate. Scars may become less noticeable but can remain to varying degrees. New acne can affect the future appearance of the skin.

Frequently Asked
Questions ›

Answers to your questions about treatment, results and aftercare.

Fractional CO₂ laser treats small areas of skin in a targeted way and stimulates skin renewal and collagen formation. During healing, depressed scars and uneven transitions can become less noticeable. Treatment is tailored to your skin type and scar pattern.

A session takes around 45–90 minutes. Initial changes may become visible after 2–6 weeks, and we assess the result after approximately 3–6 months. Depending on the extent of scarring, several sessions may be appropriate. The number of sessions and intervals are planned individually.

Local anaesthesia reduces discomfort, although warmth, burning or tightness can still occur. Depending on treatment intensity, allow around 5–14 days for recovery. Redness, swelling and crusting are possible, and residual redness may persist longer.

The treatment is particularly suitable for depressed scars left by healed acne. We assess whether it is appropriate for you during a skin examination. Afterwards, coordinated skincare, consistent sun protection and following the aftercare instructions are essential. Complete removal of scars should not be expected.
