CO₂ Laser Scar Treatment consultation

Treatment Overview

Fractional laser treatment targets selected areas of scar tissue. The age, thickness and shape of the scar determine the settings. The aim is to improve texture where possible, although the scar will not disappear completely.

CO₂ Laser Scar Treatment treatment

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Selected surgical scars that have healed sufficiently may be suitable. Scar maturity, firmness and surface texture determine the approach; not every scar type responds equally well.

CO₂ Laser Scar Treatment safety

Safety and Tolerability

Skin type, tendency to develop pigmentation changes and wound healing are considered before laser treatment. Infection, herpes reactivation, delayed healing, scarring and persistent colour changes are not expected short-term healing reactions and require appropriate assessment. Appropriate eye protection and personalised aftercare are part of the treatment plan.

Treatment Process

Your scar is assessed according to maturity, contour and tissue characteristics. We tailor the plan to the treatments suitable for you and how well your skin tolerates them.

Preparation and Aftercare

Before the treatment

Tell us how the scar developed, about previous correction attempts, medications and any tendency to develop raised or excessive scars. Change prescribed medication only after medical advice. Active inflammation and a fresh tan are assessed before treatment.

After the treatment

Protect the treated scar from friction and sun exposure and use the recommended wound care. Do not remove crusts. Increasing pain, areas of oozing or new thickening should be medically assessed.

Results

Initial structural changes may be visible after 2–6 weeks. We assess further improvement over 3–6 months. The scar may feel softer and blend more smoothly into the surrounding skin, but the scar will not disappear completely.

Local anaesthesia helps reduce discomfort, although warmth, burning or tightness may still be felt during treatment. Local anaesthesia is required. Expected downtime is around 5–14 days. Redness, swelling, warmth and fine crusting or flaking may occur during the early stages of healing. Depending on the treatment intensity, slight oozing may also occur. Worsening symptoms or signs of inflammation should be medically assessed.
