The temples connect the forehead, eye area and cheekbones at the sides of the face. When volume is lost here, hollows can develop and bony contours may become more noticeable. Carefully placed hyaluronic acid can soften these transitions. We work with your natural head shape and the way your temples relate to the rest of your face.

Temple Augmentation consultation

Treatment overview

For temple augmentation, we restore missing volume with a suitable hyaluronic acid gel. We assess where the hollow begins, how it extends towards the cheekbone and whether one side differs from the other.

The temple contains several tissue layers with important blood vessels and nerves. We therefore select the product, placement and amount particularly carefully. The aim is a smooth transition without overfilling the area or unnecessarily widening the face.

A slight natural hollow may be part of your individual face shape. We therefore discuss how much correction is appropriate and, if needed, work gradually.

Temple Augmentation treatment

When might this treatment be suitable?

Temple filler may be suitable if the area beside the forehead looks noticeably hollow or has lost volume over time. Changes in weight can also make the transitions between the forehead and cheekbones appear more pronounced.

We first assess whether there is genuine volume loss and how the skin, soft tissues and bone structure interact. Previous filler treatments, surgery or unusual changes are taken into account. A newly developed hollow on one side or symptoms in this area should be medically assessed before any aesthetic treatment.

Temple Augmentation safety

Safety and tolerability

The temples are an anatomically complex treatment area. Serious complications are rare, but a vascular complication can cause tissue damage and permanent visual impairment. Careful planning and injection technique reduce these risks but cannot eliminate them completely.

Unusual or increasing pain, pale or mottled skin, or sudden changes in vision require immediate medical assessment. Do not wait for a scheduled follow-up or a reply from the clinic.

If an unexpected change occurs, we assess the problem, arrange the necessary care and support you through the next steps.

Treatment process

Planning is based on the depth and extent of the hollowing and its transition into the forehead and cheek area.

Preparation and aftercare

Before the treatment

Tell us about any medical conditions, allergies, medications and previous procedures involving the temples, forehead or eye area. Information about existing fillers is particularly helpful for planning. Please also tell us about unusual pain, recurring swelling or any new changes in the area. We postpone treatment if there is active skin inflammation or an acute infection. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.

After the treatment

At first, avoid vigorous rubbing, massage and prolonged pressure on the temples. For example, be mindful of tight glasses, headwear or helmets pressing on the treated areas. Based on the extent of your treatment, we will advise you how long to avoid exercise, saunas, intense heat and alcohol. A mild feeling of pressure or tightness may occur temporarily, sometimes while chewing. If symptoms become worse, are unusually severe or the skin develops unusual discolouration, seek immediate medical assessment.

Results

The increase in volume is visible immediately. Early swelling may temporarily make the temples look fuller or uneven. The true contour can usually be assessed more reliably after around two weeks. How long the result lasts varies from person to person. Your body breaks down hyaluronic acid at its own rate, and changes in tissue or body weight can also affect the appearance. Lifestyle factors can influence skin quality as well. The product, amount and placement also play a role. We only plan a top-up after reassessing the area. If the transition remains well balanced, we do not recommend additional filler simply because a certain amount of time has passed.

Frequently Asked

Answers to your questions about temple contour, treatment progress and aftercare.

We use hyaluronic acid to replace missing volume at the sides of the forehead. This can soften hollowing and create a smoother transition towards the cheekbones. The amount of correction that is appropriate depends on your natural facial shape and tissue structure.

The appointment takes around 30–60 minutes. A change is visible immediately, although swelling may initially make it look more pronounced. We usually reassess the contour after about two weeks to see how it has settled and whether the agreed goal has been achieved.

You may feel some pressure during treatment; local anaesthetic can be used if needed. Afterwards, swelling, bruising and temporary tenderness may occur, sometimes while chewing. Recovery time depends on the extent of treatment and your individual response.

Temple filler may be suitable when genuine volume loss makes the sides of the face look hollow. We assess whether targeted volume replacement is appropriate and how it will fit with the rest of your face.

Afterwards, avoid strong pressure and massage at first and follow our aftercare advice. We remain available if you have questions about your recovery. Unusual pain, skin discolouration or changes in vision require immediate medical assessment.

Downtime and Swelling

Downtime and Swelling

Mild swelling, bruising or tenderness can last for several days and occasionally longer. The area may temporarily feel tight or tender when chewing. Allow enough time before important events; recovery within one to three days cannot be guaranteed.

Possible side effects

Possible side effects

Temporary local reactions usually settle on their own. Less commonly, persistent swelling, palpable lumps, infection or delayed inflammatory reactions may occur. Visible unevenness or overfilling may also require reassessment. Please have persistent or worsening symptoms checked rather than trying to correct the treated areas yourself with firm massage.

Combination Options

Combination Options

If volume has also been lost from the cheeks, treating the temples and cheeks in a coordinated way may be appropriate. We assess how the contours of both areas affect one another and avoid adding volume indiscriminately across the whole face. Expression lines on the forehead or at the outer eye area can be treated separately with botulinum toxin when appropriate. Temple volume correction and treatment of muscle activity serve different purposes. Temple filler alone cannot reliably be expected to lift the eyebrows. If you would also like to improve the skin surface, we discuss suitable complementary treatments and when to schedule them in relation to filler treatment.

Why DIVINE Medica >

DIVINE Medica Munich clinic interior

With temple filler, even small differences in volume can noticeably change the side profile of the face. We therefore assess the temples together with the forehead, eye area and cheekbones.

  • Our aim is to create a transition that suits your face. This also means that a natural hollow does not always need to be completely filled. If a subtle correction or a staged approach is more appropriate, we explain why. After treatment, we remain available for questions and to assess your progress.
  • Assessment of the temples in relation to the forehead and cheek contours
  • Careful consideration of the complex vascular and tissue anatomy
  • Individual planning when hollowing differs between the two sides
  • Conservative volume correction to avoid overfilling
  • Clear guidance on tenderness, aftercare and warning signs
  • Medical follow-up and personal support
